Custom AI Characters: Identity, Voice and Personality

A custom AI companion needs more than an attractive portrait. Think about how this fictional adult approaches a question, what interests them and why the two of you are talking. Those choices can make the first exchange specific without requiring a long, finished life story.

Review the creator options

Know which decisions belong to creation

Review the preview, identity and displayed Moments amount before confirming a character. Additional creations are listed at 500 Moments; check your account's first-character eligibility separately. A first-creation offer should not become an assumption that every later character or media request is free.

Initial personality setup and later personality editing are distinct. Ultimate is required for editing an existing personality. Public-character changes also pass through a private draft and review process, rather than immediately replacing the version everyone sees. Use the character-creation walkthrough when preparing those choices.

Give the character an outlook, then a look

For example, imagine an adult clock repairer who enjoys difficult puzzles, asks careful questions and dislikes hurried guesses. An opening about an unidentified mechanism gives those traits somewhere to appear. Give your character similarly specific interests and habits, then choose an opening that brings them into play.

Choose realistic or anime styling and the appearance details that make the identity recognizable. Voice selection concerns supported sound, while personality and background describe behavior. Do not expect a hairstyle or voice alone to communicate interests, boundaries or how the character handles disagreement.

Keep your role separate from the companion

Your saved Persona defines who you play. Custom defines who answers. An existing companion may already suit a new scene, so decide whether you need another identity or simply a different opening situation before committing to creation.

Our characters must be fictional adults. Do not base one on a celebrity, a private individual or somebody else's identifying details. Check the appropriate Character Studio controls before changing a look, personality or public version; those changes do not all follow the same path.

Common questions

What belongs in a first character brief?

Include an adult role, a few compatible interests and a way of responding. Add history when it helps the conversation rather than loading the opening with unrelated facts.

Does a new appearance also rewrite the personality?

Treat those as separate choices. Check the controls for the particular change and whether public-version review applies before expecting the result to affect other details.

Is the Free custom-chat cap another 100 messages every day?

No. Free custom-character chat has a 100-message total cap, not a fresh allowance each day. Check your eligibility and how the daily text allowance applies before relying on a longer session.
